Health, social and elderly care are public goods, not
commodities. The COVID pandemic exposed the
dangers of privatisation and fragmented provision.
Position outline
- Defend and strengthen a fully public NHS in Wales, free from privatisation.
- Bring pharmaceutical production and essential medical supply chains into public ownership.
- Shift health policy towards prevention by tackling poor housing, pollution, low pay and insecurity.
- Plan GP and free universal dental provision to meet local needs.
- Create a fully funded National Care Service, publicly delivered and free at the point of need.
- Guarantee care workers decent pay, secure contracts and full employment rights.
- Protect and plan the provision of public conveniences to meet the needs of local communities.
Our health and care system must serve people – not private profit. We need a fully public, integrated system focused on prevention, dignity, and equality.
Key priorities:
- Protect and strengthen the public NHS in Wales
- End the influence of private profit in healthcare provision
- Bring key industries like pharmaceuticals into public ownership
- Invest in local, community-based health services
Prevention first:
- Tackle root causes of ill-health such as, poor housing, poor diet and a lack of access to green space and exercise
- Build partnerships between, GPs, local councils and communities
A National Care Service:
Deliver care that is:
- Free at the point of need
- Publicly planned and accountable
- Improve pay, conditions, and training for care workers
- End the “race to the bottom” caused by privatisation
Why it matters:
- Current systems are underfunded and fragmented
- Private companies prioritise profit over care
- Inequality leads to worse health outcomes
Our commitment:
- Integrate health and social care services
- Plan long-term for an ageing population
- Ensure dignity and support for all
- A healthier Wales starts with a system built for people – not profit.
