Welsh communists in north Wales mobilised for the counter demonstration against the far-right organised protest, on Saturday 23 August, against the possible housing of asylum seekers in Mold town.
There was a disappointingly high turn out of around 300 protesters against the prospect of asylum seekers being housed in Mold (as reported on the BBC Wales website), trying to put the blame for our societies ills on people fleeing persecution rather that on those closer to home, the rich and big business that are stealing our collective wealth and setting working people against each other, whilst avoiding and evading paying their taxes.
North Wales communists message, at the hastily arrange counter demonstration of around 50 people, was “there is no room for hate in our fight against imperialist wars abroad and combating the war on the working class and our communities at home” .
In the post demonstration discussion, with fellow demonstrators, there was appreciation and support for the Communist Party principled campaigning work. Despite disappointment and concern about the far-right outnumbering peaceful counter demonstrators, there were some positive signs for the growing development of anti-fascist work in north Wales. North Wales communists will now be working to build for a further counter far-right demonstration, this time in Wrexham on Sunday 31 August.
