The Wales premiere of ‘We Only Want the Earth’ – a compelling new feature documentary exploring the life, legacy and ideas of James Connolly – one of Ireland’s most iconic revolutionary figures.
This documentary features contributions from leading historians, trade unionists, and activists. It also includes performances of songs and poems – spoken and sung by renowned artists such as Christy Moore, Stephen Rea, David Power, Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin, and Esosa Ighodaro, as well as Connolly’s great-great-granddaughter, Tamsin Iona Connolly Heron.
Directed by award-winning filmmaker Alan Gilsenan (Yellow Asylum Films), the documentary is based on Connolly’s own writings and was created to inspire and enlighten a contemporary audience.
It brings Connolly’s radical politics to life through a blend of powerful narration, historical commentary, and artistic performance – placing his ideas and achievements in conversation with the political and social struggles of today.
