31st January 2026
Wrecsam, Llwyn Isaf
On Saturday 31 January 2026, comrades of the North Wales Branch of the Communist Party of Britain attended an anti-far right protest in Wrecsam.
Throughout the day, comrades engaged in preparing and guiding the protest, including by starting chants and songs. Banners, flags and placards were produced by members for display, and handed out to other participants. Cooperation with Wrecsam Anti Fascists and other attending groups was well organised, clear, and enabled communication in a heated environment.
Members of the branch attended to ensure both protection for those more vulnerable in attendance, as well as to show solidarity with migrants and people seeking a better and safer life in Wales. In line with attending in opposition to the anti-migrant protests in Yr Wyddgrug (Mold), the North Wales Branch opposes the anti-immigrant rhetoric of the far right that has begun to permeate the whole of north Wales.
The majority in attendance on 31 January were local residents of Wrecsam, supported by groups and individuals across north Wales. The opposition to the far-right march was a broad based coalition opposed to the rise of fascism and anti-immigrant rhetoric.
The presence on 31 January of far right elements from south Wales and the rest of Britain, such as Patriotic Alternative and Advance UK, displays the widening threat of anti-immigrant rhetoric in north Wales and Wrecsam in particular. Opposition to this infiltration by far-right elements was key in the decision to attend the Wrecsam counter instead of Yr Wyddgrug.
