Stop the War Cymru statement on Iran

Stop the War Cymru logo

Welsh Communists support the statement published earlier today by Stop the War Cymru on the military attack on Iran.

The Stop the War Cymru statement reads:

At its annual meeting today [28.2.26], Stop The War Cymru condemned today’s unprovoked military attack on Iran.

STW Cymru Convenor Dominic MacAskill said: “The US/Israel strikes on Iran come as Iran has been negotiating on its civil nuclear programme. The previous 2015 agreement was broken by US President Donald Trump in 2018, and he imposed sanctions.

“Iran had just agreed that it would not stockpile enriched uranium – effectively preventing any possibility of it developing nuclear weapons. With its unilateral attacks, the US has chosen war instead of a negotiated agreement.

“Neither does Israel want an agreement with Iran. An Israeli spokesman declared today that its people would prefer war with Iran than have a settlement. This is consistent with over two years of genocidal attacks on Palestinians by Israel.

“It has been reported that the British government will support the US in ‘defensive’ measures against Iran, by facilitating refuelling and military operations if Iran were to retaliate.

“Today’s attack endangers civilians and has the illegal objective of regime change. There is a clear risk of escalation, including the possible use of Israeli nuclear weapons.

“We call for the immediate end to the US attack and for the UK government not to support actions against Iran. We call on the Senedd and UK parliament to condemn this attack, demand that it cease, and provide no political or material support.”

POLITICAL COMMITTEE STATEMENT

Communist Party condemns imperialist attack on Iran

The military attack on Iran initiated by Israel and coordinated by the Trump administration unleashes a new round in the series of ‘forever wars’ inflicted on the Middle East/West Asia region by US imperialism without a single year of respite since the 2001 war on Afghanistan.

Trump has proved once again with his latest bellicose statements that he represents the same corporate war interests as his predecessors the Bushes, Obama and Biden. US imperialism and its colonial outpost in Israel is the greatest threat to world peace in the world today.

So far, the UK government has not officially taken part in the latest US military adventure. The Communist Party calls for British ministers to make clear that this is a conflict precipitated by Israel and prepared by the Pentagon with no justification in law.

The Communist Party demands no UK military support for the US premediated attack on Iran. We call on all those who support peace and oppose imperialist war to attend the emergency protest called by the Stop the War on Iran coalition today (Saturday 28 February 2026) from 3pm at Downing Street, London SW1.
