Wales has suffered from decades of deindustrialisation, insecurity and neglect. Market chaos and dependence on multinational corporations have failed our communities.
Wales needs real change. Too much power and wealth are concentrated in the hands of a few, while working people face rising prices, insecure work, poor housing and overstretched public services.

Position outline
We believe that poverty, inequality and environmental destruction are not accidents. They are the result of an economic system that puts private profit before human need.
Capitalism creates:
- Inequality
- Economic instability
- Regional decline
We need democratic planning and public ownership.
That’s why Communists say:
- Protect jobs in vital industries and services as a top priority.
- Ban asset-stripping, mass redundancies and ‘fire and rehire’ practices.
- Take failing but strategic enterprises into democratic public ownership.
- Establish a Welsh National Economic Development Authority to plan investment and
guide private capital to where it’s most needed. - Ensure public funding secures public ownership or shareholding.
- Support cooperatives and publicly owned enterprises rooted in local communities.
Our vision:
A democratic, sustainable economy that delivers jobs, security, and equality. The economy should serve people not big business.
Our guiding principle is “no public funding without a public return,” which could take the form of full public ownership, public equity stakes, or binding planning agreements delivering social outcomes.
Raising living standards requires a larger share of national wealth to go to workers through wages rather than profits. Higher wages boost local spending and economic resilience, while profit extraction often leads to capital flight or unproductive financial speculation.
Workplace democracy is essential. Strong trade unions, sectoral collective bargaining, and expanded workers’ rights are necessary to give workers real power over wages, conditions, and investment decisions.
Our commitment:
- Put people before profit.
- Give communities a real say in economic decisions.
- Build a fair, green, and stable economy.
A better Wales is possible—when the economy works for everyone, not just the billionaires.
