Welsh Communist Party statement on the Senedd Elections result

Communist Party logo with green outline

The Communist Party thanks the voters who voted for the Communist Party candidates in Caerdydd Penarth and Conwy, Bangor, Môn constituencies. We urge those who voted for the Communist Party to get in touch with local branches and become more actively involved.

The Senedd election results mark a disastrous day for Welsh Labour, tarnished and made toxic by the Labour Westminster government’s complicity in imperialism’s wars and its continued pursuit of Tory austerity policies.

Whereas, it has been a historically positive result for Plaid Cymru, no doubt benefitting significantly from being seen as the most credible place to register an anti-Reform vote.

But we can’t ignore the meteoric rise of Reform UK in Wales which evidences a wide spread disillusionment with establishment parties and a desire, however misplaced, for real political change.

The Welsh Communist Party’s vibrant and policy rich election campaign highlighted the real change policies that would deliver a fair, green and socialist Wales and the Communist Party believes the best chance to enact some of these policies would be through the formation of a progressive coalition between Plaid Cymru and Welsh Labour; with the extra-parliamentary pressure and support of a necessarily resurgent trade union movement.
