Saturday 24th October
Central Square, Cardiff
On the 24th of October Welsh Communists joined the Cardiff Unity march. Despite the terrible weather, extreme wind and rain, comrades from the Cardiff and Pontypridd branches turned up to join their voices with many other progressive voices against racism.
The Communist Party in Cymru has shown systematic and organised work against racism with joining marches, opposing the far-right narrative, regular leafleting in city centres and creating opportunities for discussion in working class communities across both North and South Wales.
Communists offer a clear and considered analysis on racism. Racism is the result of capitalism and the labour exploitation that inevitably comes with it. Racism allows the ruling class to justify the extreme exploitation of workers and it is a convenient tool for spreading division among workers. Extreme exploitation is only possible through the de-humanisation and humiliation of people and their culture. Racism will always exist as long as capitalism exists, because capitalism was built on racism. The neo-liberal and social-democratic policies to restrict it are window-dressing to hide the true causes of racism.
We call on the people in Cardiff to celebrate the multi-cultural and multi-national character of the city. Cardiff Bay is the place where people not only co-existed, but established deep links across cultures and religions. Such links were possible because workers from all parts of the world shared working conditions, common objectives and struggles. And they did what all workers should do: unite!
Say no to racism, stop scapegoating!
