Commemoration of comrade Harry Dobson

Harry Dobson was born in Tonypandy, Rhondda Valleys. He was a member of the Communist Party and a trade unionist. He fought at the battle of De Winton field against Mosley’s black-shirts and he gave his life fighting fascism in the Spanish Civil War as part of the International Brigade. A true class hero from the valleys.

A blue plaque was unveiled on the 10th of August in Tonypandy to commemorate Harry Dobson. The plaque has been placed on the wall of the Clwb Coffi (Coffee Club) cafe at 121 Dunraven Street which was his birthplace in 1907.

The Blue Plaque unveiling was organised by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council with Deputy Council leader Cllr Webber delivering the main speech and pulling the string to reveal the Harry Dobson plaque.

Communist Party members from South Wales participated in the event distributing the Morning Star and reminding people of the history of the valleys and the importance of working class ideas.
